Our Vision
In 1992 , after the birth of my third child and creating a Special Education Program at Shining Mountain Waldorf School, I was inspired to create a class for parents and children. My hope was that by sharing the Waldorf philosophy which presents a picture of child development that embraces the physical, soul and spiritual aspects of being human, that many challenges of the Special Educational needs could be avoided. This class, Stargarden, provides an environment similar to a Waldorf Kindergarten with the adult participating with their child. It meets weekly, late August through early June, from 9 to noon. During the year there are 6 parent nights in which I present various topics that support all that is being experienced and learned in the class. These presentations are recorded and given to parents as a cd so that those unable to attend can listen.

As the year goes on, the parents begin to form friendships and a community which supports one another and the children in creating a Waldorf culture for the healthy development of the child, the family and humanity. Parents begin to embrace the philosophy as they see the positive impact on the children. Families commonly stay in the program 4-5 years, as the community becomes an integral part of their lives. This class is also a farm program so that the families witness a rich experience of Mother Earth and her creatures in the seasonal rhythms and abundant bounty of the gardens and orchard.

We celebrate our community together with a picnic in August and June, Saint Martins lantern walk in November, Advent Spiral Garden in December, Maypole in May at the time of Ascension and a closing ceremony in June. The class has served many families over the years as a sanctuary of peace and vision of parenting which brings love and joy to the earth. We would love to have you and your family join us.
